This week’s Torah portion, which we will read in shul this Shabbos, is Parashas Bereishis—“In the Beginning.”
The Torah describes how G‑d created the world through Ten Utterances. Why did He choose to create through words? What does this teach us about the purpose of creation?
The Ten Utterances correspond to another familiar set of ten: the Ten Commandments. This connection reveals a profound message. The physical world that G‑d brought into existence through the Ten Utterances is meant to be elevated through Torah and Mitzvos, represented by the Ten Commandments.
Our mission is to connect the spiritual and physical—to bring the holiness of Torah into our everyday lives and make this world a dwelling place for G‑d.
At Hebrew Academy, we are helping our students explore both the story of creation and its deeper purpose. Through teaching them Torah and encouraging them to fulfill Mitzvos, we help them recognize that every good deed brings G‑d’s presence into the world.
May we merit, together with our students, to illuminate the world with the light of Torah and Mitzvos, fulfilling our mission to make it a dwelling place for G‑d, with the coming of Moshiach.
Gut Shabbos!

This week's Parsha is Parsha Bereishit. The Parsha speaks about the creation of the world. It begins with darkness and light and, on the second day He formed Heaven and separated the waters to the upper and lower waters. On the third day He created the land and sea and trees and plants. On the fourth day He put the sun
moon and stars in to the correct spot. The fish and birds came on the fifth day. People were created on the sixth day. The seventh day was a day of rest which is known as Shabbos.
Adam was created, and was the first person to live in the Garden of Eden. Adam gave some of himself to create Eve. There was a snake which convinces Eve, who later convinced Adam to eat from the tree of knowledge even though they were forbidden to do so. After this they were sent to Earth which cursed them to not live forever.
Good Shabbos!
